Detecting cyber-crime and other investigative assignments are just a few uses the FBI may have for a bachelor degree computer science professional. However, the FBI career website warns, “There is no such thing as a typical day for an FBI Special Agent.”
FBI Application Requirements
Only U.S. citizens between the ages of 23 and 37 are eligible to apply for a position with the FBI. A bachelor of computer science or one of five other specified disciplines is also essential. In addition to attendance at a computer science university, the FBI looks for individuals with special skills in computer science and information technology, foreign language proficiency, military experience, and a variety of other skills. Foreign language proficiency is not a requirement, although it may boost an applicant’s ranking. All new FBI special agents begin their careers with an 18-week training program at the marine base in Quantico, Virginia. Special agents then enter a two-year probationary period and must relocate to an assigned post. Agents must transfer to wherever they are assigned, although they may specify their preferences ahead of time.
